Frequently Asked Questions

How many people are typically registered for the class?

We keep our classes small (6-12 people). This allows for a personalized learning environment and ample space for discussion.

How much will I have to interact with the instructor and other students?

This is an interactive class involving Zoom polls and group discussions. Your camera needs to stay on for the duration of the class.

What do I need to do prior to the class?
  • The ENA pre-course modules must be completed prior to the beginning of the class.
  • Read the textbook and study guide.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Trauma Nursing Process (TNP) handout. For Challenger/test-out, you must memorize the handout and be able to use it to work through a case scenario.
What is the process for pre-course online modules?

Once registered, you will receive a link from ENA to register on their website. This will give you access to the pre-course online modules. There are 8 interactive modules. You must complete them prior to the start of class. (You will not be able to begin the class without completion of the pre-course modules.)

What does the certification testing process entail?

The course has two testing components that need to be successfully completed to receive a 4-year certification; a written exam (with a score of 80% or higher), and working through a trauma case scenario using the Trauma Nursing Process (TNP) with a virtual mannequin. Two attempts are allowed for each exam. All testing requirements must be completed within 7 days after course completion (including any retesting).

What is the process for the TNP demonstration?

Trauma Nursing Process (TNP) testing is a trauma case scenario where you demonstrate your knowledge of the trauma process. This is done one on one with an instructor via Zoom. The testing time will be assigned to you during the class. This portion of the test will take approximately 20 minutes. No resources are allowed for this portion of the testing.

What is the process for the written online exam?

The written exam is 50 multiple-choice questions with a 2-hour time limit, and passing score is 80%. This exam is done on-line and is open-book. Students have 7 calendar days from the end of the class to take the exam.

How long is the certification valid for?

All course version certifcations are valid for 4 years.

Can I test out of the class and still receive a 4-year verification?

100% of the class is virtual/online (via Zoom). No in-person participation is required. All course activities are approved by the ENA.
